Earlier today at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Dale Earnhardt Jr. unveiled the car he'll drive in his last Cup Series start at Darlington Raceway.
As part of The Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR, Earnhardt will take the green flag in a special No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet that will look familiar to longtime members of JR Nation.
The design of his throwback ride is a nod to his AC Delco car from the late 1990s - a paint scheme that propelled him to back-to-back championships in what's now the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 1998 and 1999.
“This scheme means a good deal to me and I hope we have as much success at Darlington as we had in this car in ’98/’99,” Earnhardt said. “We almost won at Darlington in one of those races in – we were door-to-door with Dick Trickle coming to the finish line and lost by a few feet. So hopefully we can recreate some of that magic.”
He'll get his shot to do just that during The Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Labor Day weekend.
The Lionel Racing die-cast of this throwback ride is available to pre-order now at www.lionelracing.com or through an authorized Lionel Racing retailer.
